Something for every girl, and plenty of moments she’ll never forget

During unit meetings, Brownies follow a special programme. They do fun activities, play games and earn badges. Throughout their Brownies journey, they will progress through 6 themes and awards. These are consistent from Rainbows, through Brownies and Guides, to Rangers, featuring a wealth of varied age-appropriate activities and subjects.

There are Skills Builder badges, with subjects such as camping, communication and first aid, earned during unit meetings.

Interest badges, including Baking, Space, Local History, Speaking out and Painting, can be earned at home.

Badges and activities

Supported by our trained volunteers

Brownies units are run and supported by volunteers. Every formal volunteer undergoes a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and has A Safe Space 1 and 2. Every unit has at least 1 First Response first-aider, and 1 lead volunteer with A Safe Space 3.

Helping out

Our volunteers welcome a helping hand. Parents and carers can assist during a unit meeting on 2 separate occasions each term. Please talk to your unit leader to find out more.

Opportunities for parents

Becoming a Brownie

Brownies are encouraged to wear uniform to show they’re part of the Girlguiding family but there is no need to have it before she starts. Brownies wear a top and a pair of bottoms.

Badges can be attached to the uniform. The promise badge, which she’ll get after making her Brownie promise, should be on the left-hand side. All other badges can be placed wherever she chooses.

Membership fees, or subs, will be specific to an individual unit, which is calculated from costs such as their meeting location.
